“By Aiah Sodengbe……

The Kono District Development Association (KDDA) UK is proud to inform you that our organisation was awarded a Prestigious award at the Kono Union Ball held in Maryland, USA on Saturday 28th March 2015. As a result of our devoted service, KDDA was voted and presented with the ORGANIZATION OF THE YEAR AWARD. We had a strong representation in the person of Dr. Mohamed Dauda, who received the award on our behalf from the industrious President of Kono Union USA – Dr. Fuambai Sia Ahmadu.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Mohamed Dauda expressed our delight and appreciation for such an important recognition from one of the vibrant and progressive Kono organisations in the Diaspora. He thanked all those who made this possible and affirmed our desire to improve the bilateral relationship between our organisations, and stressed that the KDDA Chairman Dr. Kai Ngegba is determined to move this special relationship to another level.

KDDA felt honoured to be accorded this recognition and intend to improve their productive relationship with the Kono Union USA, and any progressive organisation in the Diaspora.

KDDA entends much thanks to the leadership and members of Kono Union for this wonderful gesture, .Dr. Mohamed Dauda, and all those who graced this elegant Occasion.

In her vote of Thanks, Dr Fuambai Sia Ahmadu reinterated:-

On behalf of Kono Union USA, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all those who helped make the KUUSA Ball a great success on Saturday night. First and foremost we are so grateful to our Grand Chief Patrons, Dr. Sahr L. Bockai whose single financial contribution and support helped make our job so much easier and Hon. Maya Kaikai, Minister of State, East in Sierra Leone for accepting our invitation as our guest of honor and keynote speaker. We appreciate the financial contributions from Hon Kaikai as well as from the Embassy of Sierra Leone, which was represented by the Head of Chancery, Madame Aisha Sillah. The Embassy of Sierra Leone, under His Excellency Hon. Bockarie Stevens has been a great friend of all Sierra Leone organizations in the DMV area including the Kono Union.

“We would like to give a special shout out to the NOSLINA Board of Directors and Executive who came out in full force to support Kono Union. We are also thankful to our VIP table sponsors: The Kassim family; The Borbor Family; Mr. Freddy Cole; The Kono Progressive Union, PA; NOSLINA; Mr. Komba Ahmadu and family; and Mr. Kai Ahmadu and family as well as so many other individual VIP guests. We would like to thank all those who made significant individual donations online or directly to representatives of KUUSA, namely Mr. Yusef Kassim, Dr. Francis Nuwah, Fatima Toure and so many others – your generous contributions will be listed in our upcoming KUUSA Ball 2015 memory book.

“Thank you so much to all those who travelled from out of state to celebrate Kuedondwe with us. A special thanks to Mr. Aiah Fanday and Mrs. Teresa Bockai for locating Signature Blue Events for us and of course to the building owners for their graciousness. A heartfelt appreciation to our beautiful MCs, Aminata Ahmadu and Natasha Beckley, former Miss Sierra Leone World (and former Miss Sierra Leone USA), as well as to spectacular performances from our Kono youths and their friends; to Mr. Johbateh our Kora player; and, to the undeniably gifted Ruby B. Johnson, the reigning Miss Earth Maryland (and another former Miss Sierra Leone USA). And, to the one and only Omar Rafik of Life Depicted – we love you and can’t wait to see the official pictures.

To the Kono Executive Team – you guys did it!!! With little to no resources you pulled together, worked hard, focused, ignored the naysayers, believed in yourselves and in our teamwork and most important, in our God up above that he would provide and give us the strength to go on. We all did it for Kono unity, for Kono dignity and for our Kono community. We are a new generation of Kono descendants rebuilding a new Kono Union and together with our colleagues in the Diaspora and back home we are refashioning a new Kono for future generations! Congrats to all the award winners – thank you for your service and your leadership. Kono ay Kono fa!!!

We dedicate this event to the constitutionally elected Vice President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Hon. Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana and vow to stand up with other Sierra Leoneans across the globe to demand his reinstatement and the restoration of democracy and the rule of law in Sierra Leone.”
